Leslie Gross meets Maria Dello,CN

leslie grossLeslie Gross, town clerk of North Hempstead and Louise Fishman Executive director of business and Tourism visit’s Maria Dello, CN located on 75 Plandome Road.
Leslie and Maria discussed the significance of integrating health and nutrition into our life style; Maria emphasized  how vital it is for our young adults to be apart of this “Health Revolution” that is so challenged according to statistics.
Maria and Leslie also reviewed unique health tips that can be done on a daily basis that will maintain our weight and longevity. Maria has developed a program that can successfully educate people how to “Get off the diet rollercoaster” “Eating is a science” says Maria. Some times just by starting the day off with protein is enough to regulate our blood sugar levels, which may put the brakes on those unforeseen cravings.
Maria advocated the importance of staying hydrated, while adding a few drops of blueberry extract can not only add a zesty zing to your water, while expanding on your level of “Anti-Oxidants which may in fact add years to your longevity.
Leslie’s visit with Maria was a wonderful way to spend time with the people in our town, “I found Maria to be knowledgeable and enthusiastic about sharing information with our residents to keep our families healthy”.
Meeting Leslie Gross and Louise Fisherman was an honor, “I found Leslie warm hearted, with a high regard for our community” Says Maria. Leslie and Louise followed there office visit at Dellonutrtionals with lunch at Sage fine foods, and there, Maria directed us to a health minded lunch.

dello junior league newest memberOur newest member of the Community Advisory Board of the Junior League
On January 9th and 10th the Junior League of Long Island held their annual January Coffees at members homes in Manhasset, Roslyn and Cold Spring Harbor.  This year, the League was honored to have Maria Dello, CN speak at all three of their meetings which were attended by over 55 members.  Ms. Dello, a Certified Nutritionist from Dello Certified Nutritionals, Inc. in Manhasset, spoke about making healthy choices in 2008.  Maria Dello is also the newest member of the Community Advisory Board of the Junior League of Long Island and will be a consultant for Junior League's upcoming project, Kids in the Kitchen, which teaches pre-school children the importance of eating healthy and making good choices. The presentations each began with a questionnaire about current eating habits.  Once member had finished the survey, the group as a whole was polled as to which category they fell into – did they already have good habits, were they on their way to healthy habits, or did they need help cleaning up their habits?  Ms. Dello shared some tips on how to have healthier lives.  Her first recommendation was to omit three things from our diets, specifically trans fats, sugar and chemicals.  She encouraged everyone to read labels, to avoid anything partially hydrogenated or hydrogenated in order to avoid trans fats, to limit sugar intake especially high fructose corn syrup and any chemical sweeteners such as aspartame or saccharine (she does recommend using Stevia as a sweetener instead of sugar since it does not raise blood sugar). Maria brought a special scale that measured our body fat percentage, some of the women were surprised to see there measurements. Other recommendations included keeping a food journal so that you can be aware of what you are eating and making sure to exercise for 45 minutes at least three days a week, Also, she recommended that you do not attempt a detox without professional supervision due to the feelings that can accompany the detox. She also stressed the great importance of drinking at least eight glasses of water a day (not during mealtimes). Maria also touched upon diabetes and heart disease, she also shared healthful recipes with our group. The Junior League of Long Island headquarters and Thrift Shop is located at 1395 Old Northern Blvd. in Roslyn (www.jlli.org). Dello Nutritionals is located at 63 Plandome Road in Manhasset 516-365-1222 (www.dellonutritionals.com).

MANHASSET NUTRTIONISTS VISITS PLANDOME WOMENS CLUB (MANHASSET PRESS JUNE O8)
Plandome Woman's Club

Nutritionist Visits Plandome Woman's Club

Photo caption:  Photo By Eileen Russo
Members of the Plandome Woman's Club received nutritional advice from Maria Dello, CN. Throughout and after the presentation Maria was inundated with questions. From left to right: Liz Miller, Mia Steele from Garden City (a member of the Junior League of Long Island and assisting Maria Dello), Alice King, Terry Scott, Judy Carroll, Maria Dello, CN, and Lucille Gaffney.
You know you should read the labels on the food you purchase. But do you really know how to read and interpret them?
Your mother or grandmother gave her children a daily dose of cod liver oil. Do you continue to do this for your children?
Your mother always told you that breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Do you - or your children - leave home without eating?
Members and guests at the Plandome Woman's Club recently learned about these points and much more from Maria Dello, a nutritionist based on Plandome Road in Manhasset.
Among a wide range of topics, Ms. Dello told all about fat production in our bodies, artificial colors in food, additives in foods and vitamin tablets, and how sugar substitutes, diet drinks and other foods really affect our bodies.
Explaining how carefully selected foods improve our overall health, Ms. Dello advised us to buy good quality foods (organic if possible).
Included in her advice were the following: eat breakfast - preferably one high in protein, eat grain breads and foods, avoid processed foods, carefully read food labels, avoid foods with added food coloring, take - and administer to your children - a daily dose of cod liver oil (flavored ones are available), eat fish a few times a week but avoid those with high levels of mercury, eat vegetables and fruit of every color to get more anti-oxidants, eat berries every day (be sure to wash them first), choose your multi-vitamin tablet very carefully, switch to parchment paper in your kitchen instead of aluminum foil -- yes, it leeches into your food.  For motivation in that direction, one of several delicious recipes shared with the group was for wild salmon, baked in parchment paper.
Walk regularly to improve the cardiovascular system and raise metabolism.  For weight loss, it is a good idea to write down everything you eat as it helps you keep on track.
As always, be sure to check with your doctor or nutritionist or pharmacist before adding vitamins and supplements to your diet.
Try to slow down a little in your busy life and avoid stress.  Have fun too - laughter really is important in your well-being.  And again, your mother really does know best: get plenty of sleep every night!
Maria Dello may be contacted at tel. 365-1222 and her website www.Dellonutritionals.com is a treasure trove of information and great tips!
